The Sunday Mirror has alleged that the DWP held illegal parties ‘all the time’ during lockdown, with alcohol and takeaway food. The DWP have denied that Therese Coffey, secretary of state for work and pensions, performed karaoke at any of these gatherings.

According to the newspaper, a core team of Coffey’s staff who have desks just outside her office door continued to go into work throughout the pandemic.

The paper says “gatherings' in Ms Coffey's office throughout the pandemic were an open secret, with one source saying "even during lockdown, there were parties all the time."

On one occasion it is alleged Coffey handed out Christmas presents to her staff.

The parties are alleged to have generally developed from staff meetings, when alcohol was produced and the gatherings would carry on into the small hours.

The Sunday Mirror claims that there are reports that Coffey regularly hosted late night karaoke sessions in her office before the pandemic.

The DWP told the Sunday Mirror there was “no karaoke” at the gatherings during the pandemic, but did not deny that late night drinking and mingling took place.

Coffey was famously videoed belting out ‘The Time of My life” at a conference party hours before cutting £20 from the benefits of millions of claimants.

You can read the full report in the Sunday Mirror.

Sadly this is just another example of the malaise that infests British Politics. It's long past time that the entire broken system was updated and replaced. The current party system simply doesn't work. The Labour/Tory seesaw leads to a continuation of an outdated and broken system. Party politics will always outweigh what is best for the country as Whips step in and override MPs. The current system is leading to the breakup of the UK.

The only way forward is to punish the tories at all by-elections, and at the next GE.

Voters need to punish them and take their power away, which they have abused.

(On one occasion it is alleged Coffey handed out Christmas presents to her staff.)

Whilst claimants were having their benefits cut, or taken away from them, all due to dodgy - bent assessors.

Having given this a good deal of thought, I wonder why other party leaders have, as far as I know, not commented on this yet.

I am staunch labour, I have not and will never vote for the Tory party, but if this article doesn't get any comments from the other parties, I am loathe to think that this unacceptable lockdown behaviour was rife amongst other parties, too.

Phrank.
i agree with you entirely, well saidQuote:
Perhaps Coffey and her staff should be sanctioned for breaking the rules. No doubt they would be willing to accept such a dose of their own medicine. After all, if they didn't, it would be a blatant case of double standards and prove beyond question that concepts like "rules" only apply to us peasants and not those in power.

And that couldn't possibly be true.
Nicely and well truthfully said.

In my opinion they were all at it, and getting on it large. The whole Westminster is or a big majority of it are corrupt to the core.

That includes the house of farts too.

Once again Politicians at their finest, getting bevvied at parties, whilst brits were dying, and the country was behaving onlock downs.

You just couldnt make it up.
