Everyone who claims personal independence payment (PIP), or who is transferred from disability living allowance (DLA) to PIP, is assessed using the PIP points system.

N.B. Face-to-face assessments for PIP have been suspended from March 2020 for a period of at least 3 months, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Instead, your assessment will be carried out on the papers or over the phone. On July 6th 2020 the DWP announced that there will continue to be no face-to-face assessments.

Not everyone will have to go for a face-to-face medical assessment, however. The DWP say that "people with the most severe health conditions or disabilities, or those who are terminally ill" are unlikely to have to attend a face-to-face medical assessment.
