As we, hopefully, begin to emerge from lockdown, it has seldom been more vital to be aware of your own mental health and that of your colleagues and clients.
To coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, Benefits and Work is running a 4 hour Zoom Mental Health Awareness training day.
Full of useful hints and tips, the course will give you the confidence to support someone in distress and is an ideal starting point for raising mental health awareness in your organisation.
Prior to the course, each participant will be posted a hard copy of:
- A manual to refer to whenever you need it
- A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health
Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate of attendance to say you are Mental Health Aware.

Who should attend
This course is useful for those working in the community in all manner of roles who may come into contact with service users needing support with their mental health. In addition to supporting service users, the course will also allow you to consider how to support your colleagues and yourself in terms of mental wellbeing.
The course is a really useful introduction to what is meant by Mental Health and why it is more important than ever to gain awareness of useful hints and tips when supporting others and ourselves.
The course is delivered on a single day in two sessions of 2 hours each, with a 15 minute break in the middle of each session and a 45 minute break for lunch.
The day runs from 10am to 12.15pm followed by lunch and resumes at 1.00pm to 3.15pm
Laura Morrell, Trainer (she/her)
Laura has more than 25 years’ experience working within the advice sector.
Having originally volunteered at Citizens Advice as a student, Laura then became a Welfare Rights Officer for Colchester Borough Council and later in Essex County Council’s Benefits Team. In these roles Laura worked closely with front-line services delivering benefits training and technical support.
Laura has spent the last 13 years working in local Citizens Advice offices as a Welfare Benefits Caseworker working with vulnerable adults in the community and supporting staff and volunteers as a Training / Advice Session Supervisor.
Laura now focusses on designing and delivering training on the skills required for working effectively with people. She is a National Trainer for many leading organisations in the Advice Sector and an Adult Education Tutor for a Local Authority.
She brings to her training her expertise, experience, and enthusiasm for imparting knowledge around human engagement and mental health awareness.
Laura is a qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and Education and Learning practitioner.
