Hi, I notice that there are other members that live in France and have had their assessment here already. The threads have been closed so I cannot ask them how their assessments went.

If there are any members living in France who have had their assessment here please let will you let me know what your experiences were. Thanks.

The old threads can still be read, but as moderators we are instructed not to try and offer individual advice by the site owner Steve Donnison

Asking for advice about benefits in France or any other non UK country is a request for individual advice. We cannot deal with queries about medicals abroad, but if any member can, then the post will be allowed.

Good luck.

Jim

Hi,
I had my medicial before christmas and I am still waiting to hear from newcastle. My best advise is to read all you can on this website and hope for the best. None of the expat french forums give any advice.
People hear are very much out on a limb with very little help or advice. This web site is excellent and has lots of interesting information. The only problem I find is you can feel so stressed that it can be difficult to take it all in. My best advice is to take someone with you and keep copies of all your correspondence. I was only give a few days notice of the medicial. I feel under great pressure
at present waiting.

The Doctor spoke good english as I did not have enough time to organize a translator. I took all the paper work I had. You need to bring your Passport as prove of identity, can't remember if anyone looked at it as I was totally stressed. It was similiar to previous medicals in the u.k. The doctor could see my disabilities and filled in the form in French. I think this is the delay as the report has to be translated. Unfortunately things can get lost in translation. Even though the Doctor said I could not work, I'm not sure what the decision maker will say and the waiting is just terrible. If you have any letters or results from tests take them with you.
The doctor was happy to read my local doctors report on the back of the form as it was french.
The meeting only lasted about 20 to 30 minutes.
I hope this is some help for you. Bon Chance!

Hello Worried, glad to hear you have survived your medical, and that the French doctor spoke English to you. I know what it can be like here in France, if your French isn't quite up to the level you would like it to be, all very scary.

Thank you very much for posting your information regarding the medical you had to have, and for the advice you have passed on about taking any letters, test results etc to the medical. It sounds like at least the doctor examined you and took on board your disabilities, probably a better scenario that having an Atos [mod edit] face you over a computer in the UK. We can only hope the decision maker agrees with the French doctors assessment of your health. I know the waiting can be very stressful.

My wife could well be facing a medical here in France very soon, as her ESA N50 form arrived 2 days before Christmas, and a Happy Christmas to you to Dave! To make it worse the form showed up 6 months before her next assessment due date, tant pis,[Too bad/ Never mind] . We explained to our French teacher this morning that there is a possibility that her benefits can be stopped with no notice, if she fails a possible medical. She found it hard to believe as here in France apparently once granted their equivalent of IB, the government cannot take it away again, Mr IDS please take note!

I hope everything works out OK for you and the decision maker agrees with the doctors report.
