Hi, and thank you that this site and forum exist. I'd been reading the newsletters and am really glad to join. Thanks for the information and support.

Atos medical was 30 Jan. They put me on work-related ESA, which is impossible. I wrote asap to ask for a reconsideration. I've heard nothing back at all, except to receive P45 in post, dated 6 March. Today I emailed housing benefits, as they'd written to me to say rent and council tax reductions have been suspended, rent from 17 feb, and council tax from 17 march. They asked me to confirm my income since 6 march. I emailed them a photo of the letter I received saying I am on work-related ESA now, and explained that I had written to ask for a reconsideration, but had heard nothing yet. Their response was ..

I have removed suspension and re-assesed benefit with your income as DLA only as the
Department of Work and Pension shows this to be your only income awaiting ESA appeal.
If you are awarded your ESA on appeal please notify this office, or please notify of any
other changes to your income.

Does this mean I have no ESA at all, until appeal is decided about/won? Just got a large electricity bill to pay off, and in the middle of trying to sort very vital support including a second opinion from a psychiatrist about potential schizophrenia/very severe anxiety disorder, counselling, etc. Already have severe arthritis/mobility problems, very bad IBS, very bad throat problem/nerves. Very worried no ESA will come into the bank tomorrow, and how long this all could take.

Thanks, Cat

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

It's not entirely clear from your post what the result of your ESA claim was, but I think you are saying that you have been placed in the Work Related Activity Group (WRAG), this being the case, you will continue to receive the WRAG rate while you wait for a new Decision to be made.

For completeness, your ESA(CB) is only payable for 365 days if you remain in the WRAG, after this, if you are also eligible for Income Related ESA then your payments will continue, although you will need to complete an ESA3 form for this to happen, if you are not then you will only receive NI Credits that count towards a full State Pension.

If you have actually been found Fit for Work then the situation is more complicated but I won't post about that unless this is what has happened to you.

Have a look at our ESA MR and Appeal guide for more information.

Hi Gordon

Sorry, I was placed on contribution-based ESA from 7 march. I'm still shocked that housing benefits are inaccurately saying the only income they can see showing up is DLA. Very stressed about medical proof too, as I moved to a new surgery last July and have been having and still having problems with GP's, right diagnosis, everything, despite clearly communicating. Involving advocacy support now.

Thank you for your reassurance about continuing to receive benefit, and for the link.

Best regards, Cat

If your P45 (for the old IB claim) was dated 6 March then your ESA will have started on 7 March, it is possible, given it is only 10 days, that the DWP have not yet informed your LA about the ESA award, they are very quick to cancel payments but not nearly as quick to start them.

Thank you for reassurance, and, yes, I agree they aren't quick to put these things into place. :-)
