I am 57 yrs, have rheumatoid arthritis and claiming ESA ; wrag group + DLA low care rate.
I attend the Jobcentre and see a disability advisor once per month.
She is going to get me into " work experience " shortly.
Please tell me exactly what this means ? I have applied for a few jobs, with no success.
Many Thanks.

Picking up your points in reverse order. :)

If you have reached a stage in your recovery where seeking work is a next logical step for you to follow then I wish you every success with this, however, if it is not then please be aware that you are not required to work or to seek work while you are receiving ESA and if you have been forced into this action by your JC+ advisor then you should escalate the issue to their manager.

The following link has some details of what ESA claimants are required to undertake while doing Work Experience. You need to be aware that this can be a mandated activity and where this is the case any failure to participate can result in your ESA being sanctioned

Many Thanks, The rheumatoid arthritis is no better. I told the Dis` advisor that I am limited to what I can undertake. She showed me a list of various charities and local companies and asked me to choose from one of these. I chose a charity. The Dis` advisor is going to get back to me to discuss days and hours. The Dis` advisor is aware that I already share the care for our mother, whom was diagnosed with Alzhemier`s last year, with my 2 sisters. As I tried looking out to Mum for a whole week and was completely shattered, as I was considering claiming Carer`s Allowance.
Any further advice would be g. appreciated. Many Thanks.

You need to understand whether this activity is mandated or not, if it is then it should be noted as such on your Action Plan.

If it is not then it is up to you whether you do this work or not, if it is then you must undertake the work unless doing so would conflict with your limitations as stated on your ESA50 in which case you should discuss the matter with your advisor, failing to participate in a mandated activity will result in your benefit being sanctioned, so it is really important for you to ascertain whether it is mandatory or not.

The work will depend on the organisation you choose, if you have picked a charity then it may involve you working in one of their shops, if they have them, or perhaps in the back office.

Thank you Gordon,
I have looked all through the paper work the Advisor gives me , nothing said on the part titled ; Action Plan ", states that it is mandatory. Only in writing, what has been agreed between the Advisor and myself. Under headings such as : Aims , Open Action Items, etc.
As far as I can remember, the Advisor has told me outright : this is mandatory.
I keep everything the DWP give and send me.
Many Thanks.
