PIP home visit what to expect was created by Deekam
Hi, this is a bit late as my pip assessment is tomorrow afternoon and i have a home appointment i just wondered what to expect.
I was given an appointment to go the centre but it was for 8.10 in the morning and as i had explained on my PIP form my mobility is very poor until the early afternoon.

I called them and explained that it would not be possible to attend mornings on any day due to my mobiility issues and was instanly asked if i wanted a home visit, i once again said i could go the assessment centre but in the afternoons. He then said i can offer you a home visit if you would prefer so i agreed. I am feeling very anxious regarding my home assessment i would be if going to the centre but at home i feel i may be judged on how well kept my home is. We are a very clean and tidy couple by nature and my husband has had a long time to get to know how Things need to be done and therefore keeps on top of things. We have no children at home now there is just us two.

I feel ok with answering any questions and providing any info as to my claim, i have a recent pain clinc apt letter i can give to them and info from my chiropractor regarding my conditions and the treatments. I was due surgery on my sacro illiac joint last September but it was postponed due to another problem with my pelvis which now needs surgery all of which i put on my PIP form but i have no supporting letters for this, can they be sent at a later time? I called my surgeons secretary and explained the PIP apt, and she said she would speak to him and see if they can get a letter for me to show them.
Thanks in advance Dee

Welcome to the forum.

A home assessment for PIP is not significantly different from one done in the Assessment Providers office, there is a section towards the back of the PIP claim guide that explains what happens and the questions you are likely to be asked.

I would not worry about how your home looks, you have explained it very well in your post and I cannot see why the assessor would not take this as fact.

If your surgeons letter does not arrive on time you can still forward it on at any time prior to a Decision being made on your claim.

Good luck this afternoon. Any hints on procedure and questions would be most helpful. I've actually supplied them with about 45 pages of history. So I wouldn't worry about not having a recent consultant letter. Just tell them it's been requested. I know what you mean about anxious though. My appt is 18/2 and I'm already getting stressed. Breathe deep!

Thank you both for the replis back to me, i have had a letter back from my conultant this afternoon 1/2 hour before my assesset arives any time now really. It mentions i am waiting for my SI surgery and during this wait period i have developed pubic symphysis dysfunction which has been described as much worse than the SI joint pain.
In the letter it mentions that it looks likeb the SI joint will no doubt need surgery and the pubis symphysis will needv plating together.

I have also had my apt, letter to discuss mynoptions on the above as there are a couple of techniques to these fusions nonrbof which i like lol
Ok i wil let you know the outcome of my assessment i just feel so stressed and anxious i can tell yoi.
Regards Dee

Typed up a long report and went to post and it disappeared. So so mad took ages to do too.

Anyway it went ok i think! An hour and a quarter but felt less to be honest as she was very pleasant.
Questions relating to what i could do how long it took to do them and how much help if any i had or needed. Hobbies that i used to be able to do that i cannot do anymore do i read magazines or books and what i did with my days.

I think i may have played down some of my issues regarding my depression as i said it was much improved, i do have anxiety issues and can get very agitated but this is mostly down to my pain. I took myself off my anti depressant meds as they did not really make much improvement. I tried very hard to be as truthful as i could so i hope this does not rule against me. It was a good relaxed sort of assesment and i think it went well but we never know do we. I have mobility issues pelvis, sacro illiac joint and pubic symphysis problems all make movement issues really bad. All explained to her, she knew about impending surgeries but looked surprised when i explained i was admitted to hospital for 5 days not able to stand or sit due to the pain even though i was taking slow release morphine and oral morphine alongside other meds and still in so much pain i had to go into hospital, so make sure you take the time to write down all the info you can so they have been informed as they are typing and do listen all the time you are talking. About 4 weeks to get the results could be less she said, if you are successful it is backdated to the datevyou made your claim. If i can help anyone preparing for the assessment please feel free to ask me anything,
Regards Dee
