I was initially awarded DLA Higher Rate Mobility in 2008, after spinal surgery in February 2007, without a DWP medical.
I had a second surgery for spinal fusion in May 2009 that left me with drop foot.I was unable to return to work after this. When my DLA came up for renewal in 2011 I was kept on the same rate, again without a medical. I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in April 2011.
I had a further spinal surgery in Jan 3013 with complications following a dural tear during surgery. I have been placed in the ESA Support Group.
In March 2014 I received my forms to change from DLA to PIP to be returned mid April 2014 as my DLA was due to end in July 2014 but I luckily continued to receive my DLA payments while my claim was being assessed.
In April 2014 I was diagnosed with depression. I heard nothing more about until a phone call on a Saturday in July telling me that I was having a home assessment for PIP the following Tuesday!
The Assessor turned up late as she had got lost and had the wrong contact number in her mobile phone so we had no idea what was going on. She was a very nice lady from CAPITA, completely different to my experience with ATOS employees. She was in our home for nearly 2 hours so I was exhausted and in pain by the time she left but glad it was over. However as the time dragged on without any news I was getting more upset and depressed at the prospect of going to Tribunal if refused and the thought of losing this vital income.
Last Saturday, 30/1/15, the dreaded brown envelope dropped through the letterbox. I was home alone as my Husband and Daughter were both in work. I opened it and as I read it my hands were shaking as I had not only been awarded Enhanced Rate of Mobility but also the Standard Daily Living Allowance. To say I am thrilled is an understatement.
This will make my life so much easier as my condition worsens. I intend sending a copy of this decision to my insurance company to support my claim on a Critical Illness Policy.
