I don't often write messages for others to view but I am furious with the DWP/JC+

I requested a copy of my medical report and have received it today along with someone else's full medical report.

I have reported this to JC+ who have passed the info to their security services and I am now waiting for security services to call me to arrange collection of this info.

It begs the questions: How safe is our info in the hands of the DWP? How do I know someone else isn't reading through mine right now?

JC+ have admitted this is a security breach and the other person will be informed, but how do I know they will contact her?

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi and welcome to the forum. on the assumption that you are also new to the site, this link should help you find your way around.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

While we are talking about confidentiality, it is worth noting that your name is visible on the forum. If you wish to change your username, in order to maintain a degree of anonymity, you can do so easily by following the advice in this FAQ.

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Yes, I'm afraid we have heard of a similar situation from one of our members in the past. To the best of my memory, it is just once in the few years that I have been on the site. It would be easy to be flippant and state that this is quite good going bearing in mind how inept DWP often seem when dealing with other aspects of claims - but I understand that this is not acceptable if it is your data that has gone astray!

Along with the steps that you have already taken, it would be worth bringing this to the attention of the Data Commissioner and maybe your MP.

Thank you for the reply and the information.

I was told that someone would contact me within 3 hours and no, they have not.

I do intend to contact my M.P. and ICO; I will not let this go.

I have been a member for some time now and have found much of your info extremely useful (it will no doubt be more useful to me now as I have just been awarded the magically zero points)

I would be inclined to contact the press too in order to show them how wrongful it is to receive someone elses ESA. Hopefully it can be done in such a way that it does not compromise confidentiality. With it going out into the main press/media arena it will help to highlight the incompetence of the system and help to devalue anything the DWP say or do. There is very little out within the main press/media to discredit DWP etc and I feel the more we can get out in the main arena the better it is for us who are ill/disabled etc who have been stigmatised by the leading press in denegrading us rather than having a go at the DWP/Govt etc.

I cannot recommend this as a course of action, at the moment alemap59 has suffered no damage as it is not there medical report that has been exposed, by contacting the press they may propagating the error and including themselves in the data exposure.

Agree in part, but was just thinking of what happened in regards to that other person a year or two ago that brought this to our attention.
I just get mad at the thought that the real public do not get to hear about all these horrid things that tend to happen, and as data protection is paramount there must be a way to it to be looked at that will not infrings on anyone but highlight the dire problem.
