Hi, I'm looking for some advise please.
I just received my PIP award of standard living, this is fantastic news - but surprising!
I have Ankylosing Spondylitis arthritis in lower and upper spine.
On bad days, I can't walk and am in serious pain. I have a son who's just started school and was advised to claim for PIP by my job seeker's advisor so I can lease a car to take son to school and find a job.
I was given a F2F 30 miles away from home (afterwards I found some people had PIP F2F in my town!) It went well and I was having a good day which I was aiming for so I could get taxi-train-taxi to the appointment but maybe this went against me as I scored 0 in the mobility which is what I need help the most in!
I'm wondering if I should appeal or stick with the amount I have? I'm on job seekers so my advisor knows I can't work until I drive. I get people to help take my son to school and help look after him as I can't do much since two years ago.
I've read a few things on appealing, but it's still unclear - after a letter is written what happens next?

As you appear to have no problems with Going Out then you will need to show that you cannot reliably walk more than 50m on the majority of days. Although you say that you cannot walk at all when your conditions are bad you do not indicate how frequently this is and how bad you are when you are not at your worst. Your travelling to the assessment centre on your own, will undoubtedly have counted against you.

If you think you meet the criteria for a Mobility award then you can request a Mandatory Reconsideration but you need to be aware that the DWP will also look at your Daily Living award and can if they feel it is justified, remove it.

If you want to pursue the matter then have a look at the PIP Appeal guide on the following link.

Hi

I guess I would be looking at the whole job thing and wondering how you will get a job when you can't work on your bad days if I were judging your claim.
I know how disheartening and depressing it is to have to accept my health stops me from getting any kind of work but signing on means you have signed a declaration that you are fit and available for full time employment and that seems at odds with the medical and health situation.
Please don't take this as any kind of criticism I am thinking out loud and trying to help you think about your chances of success if you were to appeal.

I went for DLA appeal last month as I suffer from probable ankylosing spondylitis and was on lower care and lower mobility as also suffer depression etc. I was previously working and left my job in June 2015 after a period of sick leave .
I think Foss is right about the JSa as the tribunal questioned me about whether I was working before June and the impression I had got is I may not have won appeal if had not been on sick leave . You may be better off applying for ESA as you may be questioned like I was at the tribunal as to how you claim to be well enough to work but not well enough to get about without a car.
