PIP was created by Goodlife
I received my letter on 10.6.16 to inform me that DLA is 'ending' on 4.7.16 and inviting me to claim PIP - via telephone. I have downloaded the PIP guide etc. but cannot find timescales I need.
I am hearing impaired and find it difficult to impossible to hear on the telephone. My other half is also disabled and often cannot relay questions exactly as asked. I was going to ask for a PIP1 to be sent to me so that I could complete and return. However how long will I get to complete and return? Will the original date of ringing and claiming (ie 4.7.16) be imposed or will I get more time to complete PP1? Do we have to ring to get the PIP1 sent out or can I write? Would it be better to just do the initial claim over the phone even though it would be incredibly difficult?

I know they send out the form after they have completed it, does
this come quickly and what if it isn't correct?

Also does anyone know the timescales, or usual/average time from completing and returning this and getting the PP2?

One further question after completing PP2, if medical assessment required are they being arranged quickly?

Reason for all these questions is that my other half and I are
involved in a court case as witnesses and I have an awful feeling that these things may clash.
Thanks

Hello babydoll.

First of all, to put your mind at rest, you can write and request the PIP1 form; it might be as well to telephone first and explain,, very briefly, that you have severe hearing impairment and that you are sending a letter with a request for the form.

Telephone number: 0800 917 2222 OR 0800 917 7777.

When you receive the form, it should have a 'return by' date on it; I think you have 28 days in which to complete the form. If at any time you have real problems with the form, you can telephone and ask for an extension of time to complete it. You can possibly hope for an extra two weeks..I think at the present moment,, you should wait about a month before you receive the PIP2.

The medical (if you have to have one) is less easy to predict, it can depend on where you live and how much of a backlog the assessments are facing. Perhaps other members of the forum will have a better idea of what time scale you are looking at.

If there should be a clash of dates for the f2f and your court case, then you can ask for a rearranged appointment, explaining the circumstances. You can only rearrange your appointment once, though.

I hope this is enough information for you; I'm sure other mods will fill in any gaps I've left!!

Good luck with the form :)

Hi there

A bit confused about the length of time from getting paper form of PIP1 and returning it. I understand that you have just 28 days to complete and return PIP2, does this also apply to the paper form of PIP1?

Also what are the advantages/disadvantages to allowing use of previous DLA medical information without seeing it first?

My last DLA claim was over 3 years ago and most of my medical evidence regarding Chronic Fatigue problems was from that time. I have been told that it is no use submitting medical evidence more than two years old. Is this correct?

I have had CFS for over 20 years and it has only worsened as I have aged but if I cannot submit my previous medical evidence then that part of my claim will no doubt fail. Very worried.

Your PIP claim will not start until your completed PIP1 form is received by the DWP.

So it needs to be returned to the DWP by the "claim by" date on the letter inviting you to claim PIP, if it is not then your DLA payments will be suspended and you will be given a further 28 days to start your claim. If your PIP1 is not received by then end of this period then your PIP claim will be closed and your DLA one as well. Any suspended DLA payments will be released once your claim has started.

Hi All,
Just about to go through DLA to PIP claims process. Got the guides etc. Just a couple of questions. As someone with Chronic Fatige Syndrome for over 20 years my medical evidence is a few years old as I no longer see consultants etc. My GP has this onn medical records. PIP 1 says they are not interested in anything over 2 years old. Does this mean they will ignore the stuff that I used for my last DLA claim? Also Q on page 18 of PIP1 asks about previous dla medical evidence and using it. Unsure how to answer the tickboxes as at the last tick box says I want to see all the medical evidence. Will this predjudice claim or at least delay it. Should i tick all boxes including the last one? Cannot remember what evidence was presented before and I didnt ha ve a medical last time it was approved on what I submitted.

Hi 'Babydoll',

I have merged your question with the previous topic dealing with your PIP claim. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one place!

Many people with long-term conditions have been 'parked' by the NHS, consultants do not carry on seeing people if they do not think they can offer treatment.

It is better for you to submit an older document confirming your diagnosis/issues than nothing at all! If all you have is older then you will have to send it. If you have anything more recent saying that you are still affected in the same way that is great - but, again, you can't send what you don't have.

You must still complete the PIP2 form in detail and send in all supporting material, even if you have used it for your DLA claim. DWP discard claimant's records after varying amounts of time, so they might not even have the things you sent previously.

Asking to see your DLA records first might slow down your claim. However, as long as you have done everything asked of you within the specified time-scale, your DLA award will be extended if a PIP decision has not been made by that time - so it is up to you how you answer that question.

You might want to bookmark/favourite this on your web browser so that you can find it easily when you next want to ask a question or make a comment :)
