No, ESA was a new claim, I have been on ESA support group for around 5 years. I do receive the Enhanced Disability Premium on both components for PIP.
I read the Asset rule for ESA (IR) link you provided and believe I could qualify for the SDP but wonder why the DWP never mentioned this to me.
So do I now need to get a ESA3 form and then apply for the SDP?
Just one last thing Gordon, could applying for SDP trigger an ESA assessment (god forbid) and are there any disadvantages receiving the ESA IR compared receiving the Contribution Based ESA.

When you first applied did you make a claim for Contribution only on a claim for ESA?

The DWP have historically had a big problem with assessing ESA(CB) claimants for ESA(IR), they treat the two as separate benefits when ESA is a single benefit with two payment systems.

You might want to think about getting face to face advice from a trained advisor, as these issues go back to the day you claimed ESA, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county. An advisor will be able to help you present your case to the DWP which we cannot do on the forum, providing you are and were eligible for ESA(IR) then the payment of the Premiums should have been automatic.

I can't remember Gordon. I worked for 35 years and then had to give up. I wouldn't have known the difference between Contribution base and IR related ESA back then, I barely know now. I would have just gone along with what the DWP did or said.
I don't have savings or assets etc so myself wonder why I am receiving the contribution based ESA.
Thankyou for your help, I will look for the welfare advice you suggest.. Hopefully it should be sorted one way or another by this time next year.
You do a great job as do the other moderators on here, especially when you get stupid people like me harping on and on lol.
Thankyou.

Contribution Based ESA is always paid if the claimant is eligible, what the DWP often don't do is to check whether they would also be eligible for a ESA(IR) top up.

Hello, I'm back.
I sent back the form asking if I received carers allowance as I could be entitled to SDP. I know I'm not entitled to it as Gordon said you have to receive ESA income related which I don't get only contribution based. I don't know that I want to fill out the ESA3 and probably get refused anyway.
I just want to ask, is it normal not to hear anything about ESA for around 6/7 years, that is roughly how long ago I had my last assessment after working it out properly. . Even then I had to ring them on the outcome as I didn't hear anything from them. I was told that I was in the ESA support group again. I waited for a letter to confirm this, but never received one. I rarely receive any paperwork from them apart from two, in June 2015 when they wrote to tell me I hadn't been receiving my Xmas bonus from 2009-2013 and they will back date it. I didn't even realise. The only letter before that was in 2013 'Changes in Social Security Benefits' which is the standard letter showing my entitlements.
Is this normal?

I think you have misunderstood what I was saying about ESA(CB) and ESA(IR), it is perfectly possible for you to receive ESA(CB) with an ESA(IR) top-up which would be the result of the premiums being paid.

It is well worth your pursuing the matter as you could receive an extra £75 a week and there would be a sizable back payment.
