The DWP will not accept your recording, but if you go to appeal, the Tribunal usually will. They class it as 'hearsay' evidence, but a DLA/PIP Tribunal can, as they have wide powers on which evidence to accept and which to reject. e.g. It's common practice for a Tribunal to reject the evidence of a DWP Medical Assessor, preferring the evidence of the appellant.
This is based on my 10 years as a former DLA Tribunal Member and a Principal Welfare Rights Officer for one of the biggest Metropolitan Borough Council's in England.

Jim, would you care to speculate on how the proposed changes to the appeal system might change the use of records from the assessment -.e.g. would the longer time period make it easier for the tribunal to review recorded material? Would the changes make it more necessary to have a transcript?Jim Allison wrote: The DWP will not accept your recording, but if you go to appeal, the Tribunal usually will. I recorded my assessment and am very glad I did so.
You can get cassette tapes from Maplin.

Thanks, though wondering why you were glad in your case. Also, did you operate yourself or have someone else to assist.
