ESA waiting time for medical appointment was created by Debra Blades
Hi I have been waiting since May for an appointment to be made so for a medical. I have called DWP who have said it can take quiet a while. Is there any way of pushing them to act so I can get sorted with my benefit?

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

We are finding that most members report waiting only a few weeks for a face2face appointment to be sent. It would be worth contacting the Assessment Provider (Maximus) rather than DWP

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions/comments about your ESA without having to start a new topic each time. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one topic - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Hi thank you for responding so quickly, I did contact the assessment centre several months ago and they said they could not give a time scale of when I would get the appointment, it appears that they can delay the assessment. The reason I am trying to get this sorted is that I am on contribution based ESA and this only lasts for so long.

As you say, contributory ESA is paid for only 365 days for people not in the Support Group. If you have a very low household income (you and any partner with whom you live) and/or assets, and such a partner does not work for 24 hours per week or more, you might be able to receive income-related ESA.

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

If you think this might apply to you, you should contact DWP and ask for an ESA3 form to collect details of your financial situation.

The only other thing I can suggest is to contact your MP who might be able to exert some pressure to get your seen and assessed.

Contacting your MP

Hi Debra

I have heard others say that the one thing they did found (not all reply so if not chase them up) that the MPs involvement did seem to speed things up every time things came to a halt and nothing was happening.

Mrs Hurtyback has put a link to contacting your MP and it does not matter which party they are, they still are obliged to work for their constituents.

However they cannot interfere with the legal process, but I think an MP will be more likely to clear the road block your experiencing.

Good Luck

Another TIP get medial information to support your case and to fit into the prescript ors, general information is open to interpretation. When you ask for the medical information be specific and copy the forms and boxes so they can tailor the information to fit in with the form, this will make life easier to prove your case as the system is not working properly, so you need to ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT when seeing health professionals GPs will save you a big headache later. I did not do that and now running around like crazy going to appeal.
