ESA50 Form was created by thomas
Today my wife received a letter from ATOS ESA50 and I have no way of knowing how to fill this in, she has a m edical a year and half ago and ATOS [Mod edit] completely and we ended going to appeal where we won but this put my wife under extreme pressure and didnt end up leaving our house for 3 months with anxiety.

My wife is on IB and they are transferring her to ESA I think, I have notced on this site that some people have been on IB and disability, I have never thought of claiming Disability for her as I just thought you claimed IB on grounds of not able to work.

Her conditions are severe depression where she has suicidal thoughts and has been to the GP over this and also Anxiety and thyroid problems, she hardly goes out and also when she does venture I have to go with her mainly this has to be when no where is busy sometimes 11pm of a night to shop.

Can anyone help, my wife is not able to work at the moment and think she will not go to the medical she will rather tell them to keep the money rather than go to another ATOS Medical and cause that much stress again.

Hi T, and : Welcome to Benefits and Work

As you have received The ESA50 through the post, you may wish to consider : Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire instead, many members have and find it easier.

You should refer to the corresponding section of our : ESA Claims Guides , 3rd and 4th links down, whilst filling the ESA50 in.

With respect to the ESA50, see :

How long do I have to complete the ESA50?

ESA50 too big for the envelope

Sending Documents to the DWP or ATOS

You may also find our : ESA FAQ’s , and our : IB, IS, SDA, Migration to ESA FAQ’s helpful.

With respect to your other query, you wife could also claim Disability Living Allowance, (DLA), if she has care needs and/or mobility limitations as a result of her medical conditions.

This is a totally seperate allowance to ESA, and has nothing to do with ones capabilty for work, it is tax free, and is not classed as income.

If you wish to consider this also, you would have to apply before April/June 2013, as DLA is ending then for all new applicants, and is changing to Personal Independance Payment.(PIP)

Here are our : DLA Guides and our : DLA FAQ’s .

Here is the information that we have on the introduction of PIP : PIP Information

It may be advisable to purely concentrate on filling in and returning the ESA50 for now, you can then revert back to the DLA later.

If you have any further queries after reading the above, please return to this topic. :)

Hi T,

I should have also added, that if you can manage to provide enough information and evidence with the ESA50, then you wife may not have to attend a face to face assessment. A paper assessment may be completed.

If you wish to request a Home Assessment,(if a face to face in required) you should make this clear in ESA50, giving reasons. You may wish to enlist the support of her G.P. in this, ASAP.
