ESA disability premium was created by Poppy
Hi there, I am receiving ESA assessment phase contribution based waiting for an assessment as to which group I will be put in. But I also get DLA care middle and mobility lower, I live alone and can not work as I was dismissed on ill health grounds. Is it right that I can not claim disability premium becasue I am on contribution based ESA. Also if I did receive disability premium would I have to go to interviews.

Yes and no :)

I think you are referring to the Severe Disability Premium which is paid for persons receiving DLA MRC or HRC, who live alone and for who no one receives Carers Allowance.

The premiums are not paid to claimants who only receive ESA(CB), however, it may well be that with the addition of the premium, you would also be eligible for an ESA(IR) top-up to your existing ESA(CB).

You should contact the DWP and advise them of your circumstances, you may need to complete an ESA3 form in regard your financial circumstances, but providing there are no other reasons why you should not receive ESA(IR) then it should be payable.

Hi,

Gordon is correct, another way of looking at it is, that being entitled to DP's basically increases the weekly amount that the government states that you need to live on.

There is a minimum disability income guarantee.

If your total household income is in shortfall of this "income guarantee" and you pass the "Means Test" with respect to capital assets and savings, then any shortfall in the above may be topped up in the form of an IR ESA top-up. (DP's)

As Gordon states you would have to inform The DWP with regards to your personal circumstances.

With respect to your other query, it is "The Carer" who may be exempt from aspects of WRA, not the person receiving the care.
