Housing Benefit (LHA) stopped due to PIP award! was created by mattquinn
I've just noticed that my LHA has been stopped. The paperwork says the recalculation is due to "Your New Award of PIP". I previously had DLA. With PIP award I got middle rate care. I also get ESA, and since I got PIP I get severe disability benefit.
Surely this is a mistake on their part? I can't find anything on the web that says Pip or ESA counts against LHA. My savings are below £6000.
Unfortunately, this happened well over a month ago, so I'm outside the time for challenging it. With my income increasing with the PIP award and extra ESA and backdated amounts on both (I had to appeal) I just didn't notice. I have CFS and am often foggy-headed so didn't read the letter properly. There was no letter to say they were ending my claim, just the usual calculation that they send out periodically. The first page was normal. The second page had zeroes on it, but I didn't clock it.
Can anyone confirm that this shouldn't have happened? Anyone know what chance I have of getting the money back? I only realised this evening and will phone them tomorrow, but any advance info would be useful.
Many thanks.
Matt

We don't deal with Housing Benefit on the forum, but if your applicable amount has increased, which your post suggests then I would not expect your LHA to have been withdrawn, you need to contact your Local Authority about what has happened.
