After a successful appeal to remain on ESA, I was given a rebate. No paperwork accompanied the amount I received the day after the hearing. I questioned the DWP for two weeks. I was told I could not request a ‘call back’. Finally, after my repeated requests, they sent a letter showing the breakdown. They had given me a third of what I was allowed. I eventually received the outstanding sum. I wonder whether this is standard practice, and what the judge would have thought, if they knew how much claimants had to challenge the DWP to get anything they were entitled to?

To be honest it is unusual for the DWP to get the back payments wrong although it does happen.
