PIP Assessment was created by Esme
I had a PIP assessment about a month ago. Result I have been gone from enhanced mobility to standard.
I advised the assessor that I am in pain when sitting, standing before I even start to walk. I also get breathless with pain and costochondritis. I also use a walking stick. She asked if I used a sat nav, which I said yes to but my husband pre loads it with destination for me because my memory is shocking.
I got no points for manging medication/therapy or minitor my health unaided.
I had advised assessor that my husband orders my presecriptions on line for me, has to put them in pill box for me and also checks to see if I have taken it as I do forget. As for managing my condition she asked who looks after me. I said that my GP does not regularly check me, and that we have had to pay privately for pain injections and physio etc.

I lost complete sensation in my bladder before xmas plus parts of my leg. I had to arrange and pay to see a urologist privately and am awaiting to see a neurologist.
I didn't have a full musculoskeletal exam and my the assessor said " I see that you have brought your medications but I don't need to see them.

I failed the memory test and was very stresssed and crying throughout as I admitted that I had considered taking my own life as I couldn't cope with pain and the way I am now to the way I used to be.

I have cried reading my decision letter. i cannot believe how they came to this conclusion.

I wish they could try coping with everything I go through on a daily basis.

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
