Am I right in thinking that it is possible to score points on more than one descriptor for this question?

Hi Magdelena

Are you talking about Q13 for PIP - Going Out?

If so - the following should help

The Going Out activity looks at three things.

Planning a route - this is primarily a cognitive or sensory (e.g. blindness) activity. You are being asked about the problems you would have with working out how to get from one place to another, you do not need to be able to follow the route that you are planning.

Undertaking a Journey - this is to do with mental health issues such as agoraphobia and social anxiety and is concerned with you leaving the house to go somewhere, they will be interested in the things that stop you doing this. You need to show that you would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" to meet the criteria.

Following a route - This activity about the problems you would have navigating a route. So are there problems; cognitive, sensory or mental health issues that would prevent you from doing this? This is different from undertaking a journey, in fact, if you cannot undertake a journey then you will not score points for following one and vice versa.

Yes, I did mean PIP.

To clarify, I meant is it possible be awarded points on more than one descriptor for q13? As per this paragraph in the Members Guide:

”Help whilst on a journey
The tribunal decided that if a claimant suffers ‘overwhelming psychological distress’ then they may be able to score points for d) or for f) as well as b) or e). They are not limited to only being able to score points for b) or e), as the DWP had argued.”

Hi Magdelena

Yes, it is possible, always remembering the judgment is 'may be able to' - so it is not a given.

Just to clarify, whilst you can score for more than one Descriptors in any of the PIP activities but it is only the highest scoring Descriptor that will be used for an award. Also and specifically for the Going Out activity, Descriptors (e) and (f) are considered to be mutually exclusive of each other so you can only score for one, and your arguments for that will undermine those for the other.
