Despite reading the pamphlet that's included in the ESA F2F assessment appointment letter, along with the information provided by B & W, I am still confused as to whether the claimant has to provide their own recording equipment or that Maximus will provide it ( HAAS advice appears to conflict with B & W). Could anyone clarify the situation please?

For ESA assessments HAAS will provide the equipment for a recording, for PIP the claimant needs to provide it.
You still need to make a formal request for the assessment to be recorded.

Can a claimant also insist on making their own recordings as well. Just a thought. This would cover you in case when you arrive for your assessment, the recording equipment is 'faulty' that day, or they have some other excuse not to undertake the recording. A pain for the claimant but perhaps necessary.

You can't insist on anything, this is an accommodation by the DWP, the Assessment Provider and the assessor. You can certainly ask to record it as well and they may well agree but you will still have to be able to make a dual recording direct to tape or CD, a digital recorder will not be allowed.
