I don't think the evidence has been released or is available anecdotally.
It would seem to guarantee the assessor won't lie or make stuff up but it isn't proven and probably won't be by the DWP because everyone would want one.
In my opinion every assessmment should have been recorded from the start for training and quality purposes but maybe the DWP don't want to know....

Thank you for your replies foss. It is truly diabolical what is happening out there isn't it. As if the disabled and their carers' didn't have enough to deal with already! It's a big eye-opener for me - and a huge learning curve. What has become of our once great and compassionate country? The problem is; as many people are pointing out on these forums - it really is a kind of lottery isn't it. It does seem like there is no consistency regarding awards - no fairness - no common sense being used - and not even any way of knowing if ones forms and evidence is even going to be read by anyone - at least not until the appeals stage. I need a lie down - or possibly a stiff drink. Many thanks.

Hey Buster.
As a mod I'm not allowed to express my real opinion of the DWP, government and the treatment of sick and disabled people in this once great country.

A quick question: is there any evidence out there either anecdotal or by recorded data to suggest that officially recorded PIP assessments make any difference to the awards being made compared to non recorded assessments? Many thanks. This is something we will be thinking of asking for if we (daughter) are called in - which now seems highly likely.

Just to be clear, PIP assessments will not be recorded by the Assessment Provider although the claimant can arrange to do so providing they are able to use a tape or CD recording device and can make two simultaneous copies.

Good morning moderators and fellow forum users

So today appointment letter for ATOS assessment arrived - nearly 2 weeks notice - surprisingly. Appointment place is 20 miles away - there is an assessment centre in our home city - 2 miles from home? Appointment is scheduled for very early a.m. - very awkward time for my wife (daughter's appointee).

There is some very limited but useful information on your site about this particular assessment centre - so thanks for that - it could be a lot worse by the sounds of it.

My position and query is as follows: I am not insisting on any preferential treatment (don't get me wrong) over other PIP claimants. However, I don't believe she (daughter) should even be called in for an assessment, briefly because of the following:

Incurable degenerative eye condition (blindness), in addition to lifelong learning disabilities, psychotic illness, drop attacks etc - I won't go on - it gets boring. Plenty of good quality medical evidence was provided with a detailed PIP2. Several consultants wrote brief supporting letters, one made a reference to the descriptor for not being able to plan or follow any journey alone in addition to highlighting her obvious care needs because she cannot see (consultant's words).

I personally believe the "need" to drag her along to this assessment is plain wrong - simple as that - incidentally - she was seen by a DWP assessor 7 years ago for her DLA claim - when her condition was nowhere near as bad - this was at her GP's surgery.

Anyway, I am not looking for sympathy - I am looking to her not having to undergo the assessment and the likely ordeal. I am going to have a stab at putting an end to this assessment by contacting DWP and asking them is it really necessary, and if it is why can't it be done in our home city. I might go in very hard and threaten them (DWP) with involving my MP - right from the off - asking specifically for them to consider or reconsider a paper assessment. What are your thoughts on this matter - if any? I am open to suggestions and won't be offended if your advice is simply to go along with it. Many thanks.

The best you are likely to achieve is a home assessment, if ATOS have decided that an assessment is required then it is very unlikely that they will remove this requirement.

You will need your daughter's GP to write a letter explaining why she cannot attend at their offices which should then be sent to ATOS.

Threatening the DWP will have little effect as they have deferred all responsibility for assessments to ATOS.

It may help for you to involve her MP, but until your GP has written there is little point your doing this.
