ATOS Medical, what to expect was created by Psinc23
Hi,
I received a letter from ATOS inviting me for a medical, I'm currently placed in the support group. I would like to know from claiments that have had a recent ATOS Medical on what to expect.

Cheers,

Paul.

The ESA assessment procedure has not changed so if you have had one before, expect it to be similar if not identical, if you have not had one previously then have a look at the following FAQ

ESA Medical – What to expect

I havent had a medical before as I was placed in the support group after a successful appeal 2 years ago. I was sent another form in Feb 2013 which I completed and sent back within the time frame. I was then sent another form to fill in 4 weeks later which prompted me to call ATOS and DWP of which I got different stories from. Firstly ATOS said they hadn't received my forms, then they called me back to say they had found them. The DWP told me as a result I was placed in the support group but now in Feb 2014 I have been invited for an ATOS Medical so I'm a little confused. The guides are most useful. Should I send the DWP letters from my GP and Consultant along with the fit note that my GP has written up indefifnitely?

In reply to ur question, I have had a medical by atos, and was disgûsted by the doctor , I was never asked if I had any existing medical condition, was made to feel like a criminal, with very little verbal conversation between us, was placed in wrag group of ESA and I'm now appealing to go into a support group as I am now registered disabled and suffer from agrophobia, don't be expected to be treated with respect, as mine wasn't in any way respectful towards me or my condition. Good luck. Maggie

I assume that these documents were included with the ESA50 originally? You can send them to the DWP Decision Maker to insure that they see them, although they should be included in the file that ATOS return to the DWP when the assessment is completed.

If you have it in writing that you were placed in the Support Group as a result of this latest ESA50 then you should contact the DWP as to why an assessment is being done as there should be no requirement for one, but if it was only over the phone, then the statement could have been made in error. In either case, you need to attend the assessment unless you have it in writing that you do not.

There should be no requirement for you to provide a Fit Note if you have been placed in the Support Group, you retain that status until a new Decision is made.

Thanks Gordon,
I was told on the phone that I was placed in the support group. I havent received confirmation by letter but as it's been a year since my last phone contact, I assumed that what I was told was correct. Since then my conditioned has worsened and I'm now having treatment as a day patient at hospital every 8 weeks. Should I send more recent letters to DWP or take them with me to the interview along with any other specialist correspondence?
