Is there any intention by the DWP to allow claimants to fill out a PDF version of the PIP application form as they can now when filling out the ESA50? It would be so much easier for people who have manual dexterity problems to fill out the PIP form using a computer keyboard rather than write everything out by hand.

Not as we currently have with the ESA50, each PIP form has a unique barcode printed on it by the DWP which links back to the PIP computer system, no bar code, no claim.

I see. So instead would it be acceptable to attach typed sheets and staple them to the claim form with the extra information that you would have written in the relevant boxes.

For example for say Question 3 'Extra Information - Preparing Food' you just wrote in that box something akin to "Please see attached sheet". Then on that sheet you had 'Question 3 Extra Information - Preparing Food' and then went on to explain the difficulties you have carrying out that activity.

In other words can you use extra sheets of typed written paper to explain the difficulties you have with each of the activities?

I ask because many people who have say arthritic hands/fingers may not be able to write clearly and without discomfort but can use a keyboard.

There should be no problem with this, you just need to make sure each page has your name and NI number at the top and clear page numbers at the bottom, something like "page x of", also, you need to include clear links from the form to the pages and ideally back again, so "see item x on page y of attached" and "continued from question x on the form".

Hi Gordon

So would it be okay to stick the answer over the area of further information or would that not be allowed?

In principle you can, but then you are re-introducing the limitations of the form in terms of space.

My opinion and I stress it is just my opinion, is that for each of the detailed answers your text should either all be in the form or none of it should e.g. on separate sheets, by splitting an answer across the form and a separate sheet you invite those reading it to not carry onto the additional pages.
