need help with this for PIP was created by woodsie
Hi Guys!
I don’t know if this question can be answered?
Got all the evidence to send in my PIP claim; then got cold feet over this.
Does anyone know if DWP will still accept a BD8 certificate as evidence/proof of severe visual impairment mine is quite a few years old; but my eye condition is incurable, untreatable, unstoppable, and degenerative? I have been registered blind (severely sight impaired) for over 20 years and miracles don’t happen!
I did use it in 2011 for ESA but have read on blogs they are refusing some; but I don’t know if that’s because the eye conditions concerned are treatable and they need clarification to see if there has been improvement.
The reason I ask is because; if I need a new CVI this will mean my PIP claim will have problems at submission.
Also if I am right a change of circumstance/condition has occurred. The new certificate would show deterioration and then require a new ESA claim. I really don’t want to go through it again as last time appeal request had to go before district judge to be allowed and the decision took ages and was very stressful waiting for an outcome although positive.
I didn’t want to phone DWP and ask in case I was misinformed by someone and got a new CVI unnecessarily and in addition having to submit a new ESA claim.
If no one has the answer I think I might sit tight until called.
Thanks in advance for your responces.
Regards

The BD8 was replaced in late 2005 with the current CVI certificate, however, the following site suggests that it's usage should not necessarily be a problem, I am guessing that it may depend on whether the DWP view the condition as treatable and liable to improvement which from your post appears not to be the case.
www.actionforblindpeople.org.uk/your-com...e-visual-impairment/
You do need to make sure that the BD8 shows the required level of impairment
If you have to get a CVI then whether it affects your ESA will depend on what group you are in and whether the new certificate would result in a potential change to this, basically, if you are in the WRAG would it place you in the Support Group. If you are already in the SG then it does not matter, as a general comment the DWP are not usually bothered about a claimant not telling them that they have got worse, but you may have problems in the future if you try to backdate a change.

A visual acuity of 3/60 or more, but less than 6/60, with appropriate corrective lenses if necessary, a complete loss of peripheral vision and a central vision of no more than 10 degrees in total (sometimes called tunnel vision).
