Well I eventually put in for the MR before Christmas. The GP letter, when it came, was nice but not really helpful so I didn't send it. 
This morning I received a call for the DWP. She, the caller, apparently wasn't the decision maker but was asking me if there was anything I could add etc. etc. Now it goes somewhere else, I forget where, and it should take about 35 days.
Obviously I hope it is successful but so nervous that it will be 0 points, that I'll be glad if I just stay in the WRAG. This is all too much.
