I heard the DWP can request photocopies of one`s bank statements. Is this correct ?

Hi J,

Yes, they can request your Bank Account Statements as part of a "Benefit/Compliance Check" to see whether you are receiving the correct amount of Benefit.

This being the case, if you do not receive or keep your Bank Account Statements, you can request copies from your bank going back 6 years.

Some On-Line accessible accounts also have the facility to download and print off Statements.

Hi, would this also be the case for someone on ESA/CB only, holding a joint bank account with a working partner ?

Thanks.

I afraid that the DWP can ask for any financial information that they believe is relevant to your claim, it's a condition of your on-going entitlement to payment.

Are they able to log into one`s bank account ?
Surely this is breach of the confident act ?

Hi j,

The DWP can gain access to your Bank Account details.

However, they can not do this in all cases, willy nilly.

They would have to show that there was good evidence that they needed access to investigate a suspicion of fraud, etc, before they could do this.
