PIP F2F tomorrow - Lying down? was created by Anne R
I have ME/CFS and have my PIP assessment tomorrow. As I'm bedbound 95% of the day I'm concerned about the length of time of the assessment - it says it's typically 60mins.
Is there usually a couch or similar to lie down on during the interview? I'm really not going to be able to sit for all that time, and even if I did it'll have a knock on effect for days afterward so I want to make the stress as minimal as possible.
I did ask for a home visit but they wouldn't.
Thank you for any advice

I would expect there to be an examination couch in the assessment room, although I cannot guarantee that there will. If you need to make use of it then you inform the assessor.
For ESA, I appreciate this is a PIP assessment which will be in a different office, some members have reported that the examination couch has been set abnormally high, if you have problems that might be affected by this, you should think twice before using it.

The assessment seemed to go quite well but there was no couch, only chairs. I felt very fortunate tho because the assessor told me his son had ME as well. He didn't tell me any more and I felt it inappropriate to ask, possibly he shouldn't have mentioned it, I don't know, but I'm glad he did. He was very understanding and it wasn't unnecessarily stressful at all. He did ask me to raise my arms but was really kind when I hesitated - I could do it but knew that if I did anything extra I would pay for it in the following days, so I said I'd prefer not to. He was absolutely fine about it. I felt a bit guilty not doing it and said I hoped it didn't count against me - he said he didn't do that part.
All in all the experience was fine, tho exhausting getting there and I'm glad to be back in bed.
Just a shame about the couch tho, I really could have done with it.
