Blue Badge and PIP was created by Bev
Hi,
My husband successfully completed my application for a blue badge for which I have been award for the next 3 years.
I have got Enhanced Care for PIP, but was not awarded Mobility last May at my Assessment, due to the fact that I could walk with a three wheeled walker more than 50 metres and that I could plan a journey which is not true, at the time my husband and I decided that we will leave it at that due to the fact it had taken us 12 months to get PIP and we did not want to lose any thing else as we needed the money.

Since then my husband has returned to work and my mobility has got worse, I suffer with Fibromyalgia, CFS and OSA, plus other illness. At the moment I am having a lot of pain in my lower back and knees and have been referred to pain management for which I am awaiting an appointment.

So we decided to apply for the blue badge and have been successful, my question is my review for PIP is due May 2016, though I will be paid to May 2017, should I wait for my review or should I try to get the mobility component of PIP now??

Your advice and suggestions are most welcome.

I'm afraid that receiving a Blue Badge does not necessarily mean that you now meet the criteria for a PIP Mobility award, whilst similar the criteria that your Local Authority will have applied will be a lot less strict than those for PIP.

If you believe that you now meet the criteria for a PIP award then you can write to the DWP asking to be re-assessed due to a deterioration in your conditions. You can ask that they only look at the Mobility award, but the DWP can expand the review to your Daily Living component as well, so you need to give some though to how secure that it is before proceeding.

If you have doubts about your scoring the 8 points (minimum) needed for a Mobility award and/or you are concerned about reducing or losing your Daily Living Component then you might wait to wait until your PIP is re-assessed by the DWP.

The choice is of course yours.
