Moving from N.Ireland to England was created by popjoc
I am currently in receipt of ESA, support group, and I am also getting DLA High Rate for both Care and Mobility.

My wife now wants the family to move to the Liverpool area, and although I have difficulty getting out and about, I am looking forward to it.

Will my clams for ESA and DLA just transfer automatically when I change address, or do I need to re apply for these benefits?

Any advice will be greatly received.

Thanks in advance.

I cannot give definitive advice but I think you may have problems with both.

For DLA we have had several members move to the UK mainland only to be invited to claim PIP.

If your ESA is Contribution Based then I do not believe that your NI Contribution history is transferable meaning that you will only be able to claim Income Based ESA on the mainland.

I would recommend that you get face to face advise from a trained advisor before moving, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your current postcode, town or county.

Thank you for the reply Gordon.

I am currently on Income Related ESA, so i am not sure if that will make a difference. Should I speak to someone in Northern Ireland, or contact the local Benefits Office of where I am moving to.

Many thanks again

If you are only eligible for Income Related ESA then this should be no problem, I would think that contacting a local advice agency would be best initially, they are more likely to know the issues someone moving to the mainland would have, although at the risk of stereo typing your move, as you are thinking of moving to Liverpool they may also have experience in this area.

Social Security Benefits are administered in N.I. by the Dept of Social Development, whilst in the UK they are administered by the Dept of Work and Pensions.

See Introduction to the Social Security Agency for advice on benefits in N.I.
