ESA and retirement. was created by joen
Hi can the moderators answer this question for me.
Do you still recieve ESA (income related) when you reach retirement ,and on reaching that stage do they still take my occupational pension into account if i were on pension credit?

ESA is an income replacement benefit so it is only payable until the claimant reaches State Retirement Age.

Pension Credit is an Income Related benefit so any occupational benefit will be deducted £ for £ from the PC.

There are two "additions" paid with Pension Credit, a Severe Disability addition paid because you receive AA, DLA MRC or HRC or PIP Daily Living and you live alone or are considered to be living alone and no one receives Carers Allowance for you. And the Carers addition where you are in receipt of or have an underlying entitlement to Cares Allowance.

Just to add, Pension Credit and ESA(IR) are overlapping benefits so you can only be paid one or the other.

The following facts sheet may be of help.
