Applied for PIP from DLA, What now ? was created by lollo1
Our daughter who is 16 and Autistic was recently asked to apply for PIP from DLA. She was 16 on 10th August and we got a letter on the 14th dated the 11th. No hanging around by DWP. We contacted them immediately as I am her appointee. Forms were completed using Benefits and Works guide. Sent them off by recorded post and contacted them around the 14th September to confirm that they had received them. Yes they had and they would be in contact with-in next few weeks to arrange a medical. Now her DLA award does not run out till next August so do I leave things be for the moment and let them contact me when they choose or do I chase things up. I am terrified of pushing things in case she looses her current award. I was hoping that with the amount of evidence they have they might of been able to make a paper based decision as she will be distraught at having a medical with a stranger. Any advice and idea of how long I should wait before chasing it up.

Hi loll01,

As long as you have done everything within the timescale dictated by DWP, your daughter's DLA will continue in payment until 4 weeks after the PIP decision, whatever that may be. It is up to you whether to contact the DWP to try and speed up the process. As you say, you do run the risk of losing several months of payment if the PIP decision were not favourable.

Whether the claimant needs a face2face assessment depends on whether the HCP believes there is enough information to make a decision without.
