Firstly, PIP helpdesk seem to make up their own rules. Some weeks ago I asked a friend to call DWP on my behalf about my PIP claim, helpdesk didn't mind my friend answering the security questions as I was there. Fast forward to today, I again asked a friend to call on my behalf about my 2 week old PIP MR claim and helpdesk insisted I answer the security questions myself. Odd.
Secondly, is it the case that my DLA payments, which are due to stop on 19th Jan, will cease even though a decision based on my MR has not yet been made?

I'm afraid not, the MR is considered to be a separate process so your current DLA payments will stop on the 195th, however, if successful then back payment will be made from the 20th.
