I have just received my PIP decision and i have been awarded just the standard rate of the living component, i would like to dispute this. When i call to ask for the mandatory reconsideration do i have to give the reasons for disputing or do they send me a form to fill out? Feeling a bit confused and daunted by the whole process so any help is appreciated
I am sorry that your PIP award was not what you hoped for. You can make a request for MR by phone if you wish but we do recommend that you follow it up in writing. There is no specific form for this but our PIP guide does tell you how to go about this. You do not need to include a lot of information with the initial request but, of course, you will have to provide comprehensive information about how/why you believe you should have qualified.
If you have not yet requested the assessment report, you should do so but do not wait for this to arrive if it would mean waiting more than 1 month to request the MR. When you have the report you will have more idea of why you failed to score more points and we will be able to give more specific help.
You should be aware that requesting an MR/appeal does run the risk of your award being reduced/removed as well as increased.
