Atos Assessment Centre is miles away

We have been given an appointment for an Atos Centre 45 miles away ( Sheffield ) & have to take a person with learning difficulties to that Centre . Is there a way to ask for a Centre that is closer , such as Manchester . Would doing so count against The Assessment ? With the distance to travel , bound to arrive there a bit distressed to say the least .

We are experiencing an increase in people being sent an assessment miles away at an inappropriate time.
You should ring the number in the letter straight away and ask for the nearest centre to you.
You can Google the company doing the assessment and go to their website for a list of centres.

There is one in Manchester central..Don't know where you live.

My granddaughter lives in Stockport and was also given an appointment for Sheffield.

My Daughter-in-law rang Atos immediately and was given one in Stockport for the following week. 5 mins drive away!!!!!! She had the choice of appointment dates and times.....

Just spoke to a Gentleman and been offered a cancellation much much closer. The person i spoke to was extremely helpful.

If you do move this appointment, it is imperative that the claimant attends the next one. Claimants are only able to defer the assessment once without the risk of their file being returned to DWP and the claim terminated.
