Mental health and PIP? was created by Judy
Someone I know gets ESA low mobility and medium care. They are worried about PIP. They have serious mental health issues, have tried to take their life several times and have voluntarily been admitted to a mental health unit. They hear voices and have other mental health issues. They are worried that they do not come under any PIP criteria which seems geared to mobility rather than mental health. Would they lose their benefits when they are eventually required to apply for PIP please?

I'm afraid there is no way to predict how any individual will fair under PIP.

There are 10 activities related to care and only two related to mobility, all of them with the exception of one of the mobility activities consider mental health issues.

PIP Is generally considered to be more difficult to get than DLA, but it has a different assessment approach from DLA and this can favour some claimants.

The best we can advise is to be ready for when they are asked to claim PIP by going through our PIP Claim guide to understand the criteria against which they will be assessed.
