Are there any exceptions for claiming carers allowance, once you receive a State Pension. My carer is in this category, and I am left with no other options, any advice appreciated.

I'm afraid not they are classed as overlapping benefits, if the carer is also entitled to Pension Credit then they can receive a Carers Addition.
