ESA and Medical Certificates

My son is presently in the assessment phase for ESA, and is to have his assessment next week. As his medical certificate has run out at the start of this week do I need to submit a new one.
I previously had a reminder from DWP when the last on ran out, but have received nothing this time.
We have submitted two certificates so far, each for 3 months.

He will only be paid his ESA if he has an active Fit Note on record at the DWP so you need supply a new one until a Decision is made on his claim.
