Hello I have phoned this week on behalf of my son acknowledging his invitation to transfer from DLA to PIP to start the ball rolling officially.. As he has many issues including serous problems with mental health etc and physical problems. At what point can you request an extension ? He has not received the PIP2 form back yet but I know I'm simply not going to have time to gather everything as he simply has many physical and mental health problems and we can not devout so much time to this huge task due to th inability to concentrate for only short periods. I've already had 2 weeks head start, but it would be nice knowing at what point, if there is one I can request an extension. It there a standard situation where on previous claims for dla or Esa they can recognise the claimant has self harmed and took overdoses that they would be more inclined to grant extensions? Is there a standard extension period granted, if requested or is every case based on its merits. I know it took me 9 weeks last time for ESA and an extension was given. Thank you
You can ask at any time during the four weeks you normally have to complete the PIP2 for a two week extension, most claimants ask during weeks three or four when they have a better understanding of whether they need the extra time of not..
