claiming pip from dla was created by stuart
hi, i was wondering if you could tell me if i am able to just phone up dwp to ask for pip and if i will lose money or be penalised rather than just waiting for the letter to come through randomly, it is causing me a lot of upset waiting for this letter and the consequences that might come from it and i just want to get it over and done with now.
my circumstances have changed since making the claim the last time (for dla) as i am staying on my own now and things are harder for me, getting shopping, less support, being independent, being self sufficient, getting out.
i got the middle rate care, low mobility last time but now that i stay on my own and things are harder for me i was wondering if i may qualify for enhanced rate care.
also was wondering if the way it is written will make my claim better or worse, if i wrote it myself it might not be worded as good as a professional,
also is it good to keep a diary of say a month and hand it in with my forms to show in more days what life is like for me and have you got a template for this?
sorry for all the questions i just really want this thing over.

You can self-select to claim PIP no, but please be aware, once you start the process you cannot cancel it and at the end of it your DLA claim will be closed whatever the outcome is in regard to the PIP.
Also, PIP has been engineered to be a more difficult benefit to receive than DLA, a significant percentage of DLA claimants receive no award at all and many receive a reduced award. This is not helped by the assessment criteria and approach being very different than they are for DLA.
I would strongly recommend that you have a good read of the PIP Claim guide to see the criteria that you will be assessed against before making a decision.

If you want to go ahead then the guide explains how to make a claim.

hi, thanks for the information,
i have made an appointment with the cab who said they can help me and i was wondering if you think they are a good resource to use because no matter how i try i cant seem to see any way of doing it myself with your help (no offense) its just too big of a thing for me to do alone,
idk if i am doing the right thing, have you any statistics on winning enhanced rates for pip with a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia,
and i am worried about coming across as ok because i have been stable for a while on meds and i find it hard to express myself

As with any advice we tend to only see the extremes on the forum, my advice would be to male sure that the advisor has a proven success record in helping claimants complete their PIP2.
Also, remember this is your claim and only you profit or lose by it, so you need to take ownership of the process even if you ask the CAB for help, if there is something you do not understand then ask and if there is something you don't like then ask for it to be changed.
I'm afraid there are very few statistics that are condition based and even where there are they are not something that you can rely on, two people with the same condition could be effected in very different ways, one might have no entitlement to PIP and the other might qualify for the highest rates.

sorry, i made a mistake and when i went to the cab with my friend we asked if we would be better off remaining on DLA until we get the PIP letter through to start the process and he said that we would be better waiting because he has had people waiting 6 weeks to get paid because of universal credit and that some needed food banks because they had nothing to live on,
it just really scares me and i was embarrassed to say that i wanted to claim for mobility as well and i couldnt help thinking that i was being judged,
do you guys work along side the citizens advice bureau, i was just wondering whats is the best way to make a claim, do i use this site and try it on my own or use the cab or get a nurse to help me, idk how i can use all the help,
i'd like to think that the cab is kept up to date by the information on this site and knows all the ins and outs of the pip claims process
also idk how long i will be on esa and what will happen if i am reassessed and if i will be reassessed along with the dla-pip, i was assessed and put in the esa support group in about 2012 without a face to face.

We do not work with the CAB and I have no idea whether they make any use of the information on the B&W site.
Having assistance from a trained advisor is always something to take up if you can get it.
If you contact the DWP office dealing with your ESA claim they should be able to tell you when you are likely to be reassessed.
