I would appreciate any understanding known of , if I could apply to get a course I could manage from home at O U while I am getting my DLA and ESA income related.
I have not been able to work for over 20 years and still feel estranged from the hopes I had then as to further education. My only fear, like most on benefit now is, can I use my mind to do study from home with my usual help from my carer, my wife and could this studying in any way affect any benefits, as I will need to apply in Scotland for the fees that are payable for me on SAAS. This is only for fees not income as in a grant I expect.
I feel great fear even attempting to apply, in case it takes away the needs of benefits I already have so please, if any concrete advice available I will be obliged. Thanks
The course itself will not be a problem as all Open University courses are treated as being part time.
Your doing the course must not contradict any of the reasons why you receive your ESA and DLA.
The fees may be an issue for ESA, but hopefully not if there is no grant being made. Unfortunately this is not an area we deal with on the forum so I can't give you a definitive answer. I would expect the OU to be able to help you, unfortunately most of the information available covers full time students and only makes brief reference to part time ones.
