How early on so they contact GP for medical information? Before or after they recieve the pip2? After I presume?

Your authority will be sought on the phone call which is recorded and stored as part of your PIP file.

For a new claim it will be after the PIP2 is received, if they do indeed contact them at all.

I wonder in what circumstances do they contact/not contact the GP for further information? As of course they might be reluctant to do this as I think they have to pay the GP if they do this.
But of course I can't see them giving pip without any medical information?
Maybe in weak cases where they are going to refuse pip they do not bother to contact GP as it would be wasting their money paying for medical evidence.

I am sorry to disillusion you but they probably don't contact the GP or other medical contacts for more than 25% of claims and even where they do, the medical contacts only actually reply in about 25% of occasions and then often with "yes", "no" or "I don't know".
If you want any medical evidence to be considered then you really need to include it with your PIP2.
