He doesn't have to be in the room but if you suffer from conditions such as Social Anxiety or similar then it might count against you if you see the assessor on your own.

Any examination they do should be able to done through your clothes, the only exception to this would be a coat that might itself limit your movements, so you may be asked to remove this, they will not help you do this so it might be sensible to get your husband to help you with this while you are still in reception.
