  			 				Dear all,

Would anyone be able to help our friend in his situation? He has no computer or internet access so we have to give him the information, unless there are groups/individuals/independent organisations with phone numbers, postal addresses or a walk - in service where he can drop in and speak to someone. We are aware of how rare these are now.

Our friend is father of 3 children, one Downs and young adult now, youngest is ADHD and nearly ten and still attending a special school. He has been co-carer with the mother since the adult Downs child was born about 20 years ago, married longer, couple now have split up.

He has no money or savings/possessions and has had to leave the marital home. Previouslythe wife claimed on behalf of all all 5 - himself, herself and the 3 children and controlled the joint bank account which he wasn't allowed access to.

He is staying with a friend in the area but this can't continue forever. He has recently claimed JSA or whatever unemployed jobseeking people can claim now and is told he can't claim for any time before the date of registering claim and he has no money except what his friend and US give him

He could stay with us but wants to remain near his children(he did most of the 24 hour caring for them all in last few years but can't prove it)

He lives in Birmingham where the children and ex are, we are a long way off, he has no transport either. He badly needs advice and help with

1 his claim for benefit, and to find if any chance of renting a place near the kids - can't pay a deposit. Currently volunteering at a British heart foundation charity shop and fully available for work if he can get it.Very good at selling mending and assembling furniture as it happens

2.advice on access to the kids who all miss him and the 2 disabled ones depend on him a lot.Mother is finding it finding it hard on her own.
he doesn't want any fighting just to see kids and know they're OK.Please do not suggest social services etc

Are there any service user/support groups/parents/individuals in similar situation past / present to advise(Downs/learning disability/adhd/autism)

Please do not refer us to Social Services, local Council, Jobcentre or any government organisation/websites as ALL these have already been tried.

Thank you for any help you'll be able to give.

I would recommend that he gets face to face advice from a trained advisor, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with his current postcode, town or county.
