payment of PIP after being in hospital for 35 days was created by hippyhappy
If I was in hospital for a total of 35 days in a year (not consecutively) but 10 of those days were actually spent at home (psychiatric hospital....overnight stays at home but bed kept just in case I needed to go back) should I have had my PIP stopped? I was advised (I think maybe wrongly) that I didn't need to inform DWP as my total was only 25 days. In the past, the hospital has always done the contacting DWP but I have never had it stopped. (When it was DLA) I got a letter once to say they were taking some money off me but they never did. They now want to know my admission dates which I know but I can't remember the nights at home.

Yes you should have informed the DWP at the time but it's only an issue if you spend more than 28 days in hospital in one period. The day you go into hospital and the day you leave do not count but any two periods (or more), separated by less than 28 days count as one period.
Being in hospital does not remove your award it just suspends payment.

Thank you. It was actually a friend of mine but I thought it easier to tell the story if it was me. I think I posted describing the story both ways so if you receive the other one from me, please ignore and accept my apologies for being so confusing!
