I was advised (I think maybe wrongly) that I didn't need to inform DWP as my total was only 25 days. In the past, the hospital has always done the contacting DWP but I have never had it stopped. (When it was DLA) I got a letter once to say they were taking some money off me but they never did. They now want to know my admission dates which I know but I can't remember the nights at home.
Yes you should have informed the DWP at the time but it's only an issue if you spend more than 28 days in hospital in one period. The day you go into hospital and the day you leave do not count but any two periods (or more), separated by less than 28 days count as one period.
Being in hospital does not remove your award it just suspends payment.
