I completed the PIP claim form for my brother in law who suffers from Polyarthritis and depression.I also requested a home visit which will take place this week. Can the Medical Assessor legally examine the house? The house has not been adapted nor did I say it was,as all time is spent downstairs because of his condition.

No, they have no more rights in the claimants home than any other visitor, I would not worry, the vast majority of assessors do not even ask.
The PIP Claim guide has sections on the assessment and the questions they are likely to be asked.
