Cant get to pip assessment! was created by Dave
Hi please help
Ive just come home from hospital after having a TIA/neuro type episode to see my pip assessmnt letter here, im now in a state as I cant get there. Its for October 22nd at 10.30 in central Bristol. I live in a small rural village 20 miles from centre, with no buses and only able to,drive really locally due to anxiety and panic attacks. I told them on my form that i cant travel to,places i dont know well and rarely go out due to it causimg me such distress, amd asked for a home visit. Theyve ignored that. Ive now been advised by hospital to not drive for a month anyway. A taxi there would be astronimical even if i could bring myself to attend and i cant afford that. I also have absoloitly nobody to attend with me so would have to go,alone! Fightback did my initial form but are too far away to attend with me, so im on my own. I just cant see how im going to do this and it's already making me feel so ill i feel like just giving up. My GP i see is on a sabbatical and i cant even see somebody else for 3 weeks so no time to ask for a letter, but they arnt very helpful anyway so i doubt would do, it. Its a tiny village surgery and not particularly helpful to me. If i ask for atos to pay for a taxi it would cost a lot of money so I expect they would say no, but with nobody able to,come with me, i dont think i can do this anyway. If im alone and have a panic attack i couldnt cope. I also have fibromyalgia and cognitive problems due to small vessel desease, How can they justify makimg people this mentally ill, domt they even read the forms? I feel suicidal. Can i force a home visit, ( even then i will be on on my own though) or do they have to make me go

They do check Public Transport when they book these appointments, it may be that their "route" is not, in fact, practical but you will need to check this before contacting them.

A home assessment will require the support of your GP, they need to write to the Assessment Provider explaining unequivocally why you cannot attend at their offices.

As an alternative, you could ask for a taxi but I think you will still need the support of your GP.

If an appointment later in the day would make it easier then you can move the appointment but you can only do this once so you must attend the new date.

I recently had a PiP assessment and had to use a taxi there and back
they have reimbursed the money, today - a total of £65 - which I was surprised they agreed to

I hope that reassures you a little

is there a neighbour, anyone you know locally who might be willing to travel with you, even if they don't actually go into the assessment with you?

Thankyou Gordon
Well they certainly couldn't have checked public transport from my village, because there are only 3 buses a day into the nearest larger town ( to catch another bus into the town they want me to get to) and the first one from this village is at 10.30am. My assessment is actually at 10.30 and if I did get the 2 buses, I would be arriving around 3 hours late!
They don't seem to have dome their homework with this one.

Thankyou Walker.
I have nobody who can come with me. I think taxi there and back would be around 60.00 each way as its across towns and into busy areas? I just feel like giving this up, its already too stressful. I guess thats what they want though.

Appointments need to reachable using Public Transport but contacting the Assessment Provider about your being unable to get there for the current time may simply result in an appointment for a time when you can get there.

If you do contact them, at no time should you mention that you want te appointment changed, this has to be there decision!
