PIP assessment home visit was created by chrisskin
Can you please help me.
I have today received a letter for a PIP assessment at home. I haven`t asked for a home visit and don`t know if I want one after reading so many bad things about drive bys etc. I`m really anxious about it panicking about why they want to do a home visit.
In general are home visits a good or bad thing? I`m thinking that it`s bad. My daughter helps with the housework etc and I'm thinking that they will say that it`s a fairly well kept house and that I must keep it like that. I have had many experiences at assessments where the assessor has said that I`ve been able to do something that I clearly can`t. I did panic and ring the assessment help line and was told if I changed it I couldn`t change it again. When I asked about going to the usual place I go to I was told that they couldn`t say so if I didn`t get to go to my usual centre which is at ground level I wouldn`t be able to change it. My stress levels are through the roof as I feel it`s a trap. I only have until 2/11/18 so just over a weeks notice.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

A home assessment is usually a good thing as it shows an acceptance of your problems in attending at the Assessment Provider's offices.
The PIP Claim guide has sections on the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

Don't panic over a home visit. I have had one. She came into one room in my house and all other doors were closed. If she had observations about my house she never remarked on them, other than confirming how long it took me to get down a flight of stairs. My answer was accepted and she didn't ask me to demonstrate. Not everyone has a good experience with an assessor but I did. I had a friend with me which made things easier. I would try not to be alone - so you always have a backup for what was said. Good luck,
