Gotcha. Do I ask on the MR letter or do I phone to ask for the time. If I phone to ask is that reliable?

Ask in the letter but I would phone up after about a week or if you receive a text saying that they have received your MR to confirm that they have allowed the time.

I 'automatically' get four weeks to send in extra evidence from when I submit the MR don't I? If I ask for 4 weeks, will I get 8?!

OK, so you can request they give you an extra four weeks to source additional information, the four weeks will run from the date on your MR request.

There's no automatic four weeks, it's four weeks in total and at the discretion of a Decision Maker although I have never seen it refused.
