PIP Review Assessment was created by Sherinda
I apologise in advance for my long post. On Tuesday seventh of May 2019 I had a PIP review face-to-face assessment by a physio therapist. I have several medical conditions including bipolar. The assessor admitted that she had not heard of any of them so concentrated on my mental health. Very often I cannot leave the house due to anxiety and panic attacks. She asked me what my symptoms were and I was very distressed throughout and told her that it was low self-esteem, feeling worthless. I failed to tell her how there are weeks when I cannot get out of bed, wash, dress or eat. I also have physical mobility issues. This morning she phoned and said that the DWP wanted more answers and if they’re not happy I’ll have to have another f2f and would that be okay. She asked me if I used public transport and how long ago had I used public transport. I said no I did not and had not used public transport for years. I’ve since remembered I have occasionally used taxis. She wanted to know how many hospital appointments I have in a year
because I told her I use patient transport.
She also wanted to know what medication I took for anxiety and panic attacks but I try to manage it myself and just take medication for bipolar. Since my appointment I have been given an appointment for something unrelated in London. I have no option but to use public transport. Also during an episode of mania I booked a holiday for my family and myself abroad for next month. I do not want to go on this holiday nor do I feel well enough. It was booked when I was on a high. I will definitely need some medication to calm me for these events. My gp and psychiatrist are aware of these events and are encouraging me to go. What shall I do if I am reassessed and the appointment comes whilst I’m on holiday? I’m trying not to stress out but am prepared for a fight. The physiotherapist is obviously not trained or experienced in any of my illnesses especially mental health. Please can anyone advise? TIA

Did you state that there are periods when you cannot get up, etc. in your claim form?
Taxis are not considered to be Public Transport.
Have they actually said that you are going to have a second assessment, as your post suggests that it was dependant on the answer you gave when phoned?
You can contact the Assessment Provider and give them the dates that you will be unavailable.

Also remember that the criteria should apply on the majority of days- so in theory a one off appointment in London is not the majority of time.

No I didn’t state that there are days when can’t get out of bed. A lady from DWP came to my house to help me fill out the form. I wasxinva depressive episode and tried to fill the form in myself and couldn’t sonhad a breakdown and phoned them for help. I had tried to complete the form but the lady asked to read what I had written so I gave her my completed form. When she finished I signed and dated without reading it and she never read this backbto me either. I only realised this after she’d left. I phoned DWP and requested a copy. The lady had copied what I had written on my form only she had omitted some of my information. I did tell the lady at the assessment about my other conditions and she said she didn’t know what they were so she did not discuss how they affected me and mainly concentrated on my mental health. She concentrated on my depressive episodes and asked nothing about my manic episodes when I can be aggressive towards others if I don’t get my own way. During a depressive episode I have trouble leaving the house but during a manic episode I can stay out all day and/or night with anybody whether I know them or not. I am unable to wash and dress myself without assistance due to pain and I’m wondering if she is questioning how I can drive occasionally.. I’m also concerned as to why she wanted to know how many hospital appointments I atten on average per year. My gp was not happy with the women coming to my house and said that at that time I did not have the mental capacity to sign anything and that she would complete any form saying that I was not fit for work. I am very worried and stressed as you can imagine. Do I go on this special holiday which I am stressing over and will have to get some medication to calm before I go or shall I not go? It was booked in a manic episode and of course now I’m dreading it but would really like to go. I’m such a mess.

All you can do is wait for the Decision, you can request a copy of the assessment report by contacting the DWP office dealing with your claim.
